Bluebird Cafe |
1932:
A charming picture of the Blue Bird Cafe back in pre-war 1932, in the
days when people dressed up properly when they went out for the day. |
|
In the early days the cafe was called the Blue Bird Cafe, renamed, then briefly became the Martin's Retreat. The earliest photos seem to have been taken about 1933
By the time the Canadian army arrived during the War, it had reverted to the name Blue Bird. The Army used the building for a NAAFI canteen.
In 1993 the sea defences had been improved and the cafe
was renamed The Lemon Tree Cafe.
The name is now back to Blue Bird and the outside area has been renovated and improved, with the addition of an outdoor patio so you can have a view the beach over the sea wall while you relax over your snack, meal or coffee. |
